2018 – Kate wins gold at the commonwealth games

Kate - Commonwealth Game 2018s

This month I had the honour of representing England at the Commonwealth Karate Championships 2018 held in Durban, South Africa. The England National Karate Team travelled to complete at this prestigious tournament, eager to create a good impression, especially in light of the fact that we will be hosting the next Commonwealth Championships in 2020, in Birmingham.

After a long 3 days of competition I won through 4 rounds to reach the final of the Championships and, in winning the final fight 8-0, achieved the Gold medal and Commonwealth Karate Championship Title.

I have been doing Karate since the age of 7 years and have been a member of the England and GB Karate Team since 14 years old. The Commonwealth Gold is one of the most notable achievements within my Karate Career, to date, alongside my three European Championship Medals plus numerous British and National titles.

As a self-funded athlete these major tournaments can create enormous pressure and one always feels a great sense of achievement when all the hard training, sacrifice and commitment pays off! It was a tremendous honour to attend the Championships, representing my country and bringing home the Gold medal and Commonwealth Title.
